Celebrating Heritage, Embracing Diversity: How Culture Connects Us at MOLO
Culture is more than traditions and celebrations. It is the language we speak, the stories we share, and the values passed from one generation to the next. At MOLO Bilingual Montessori School, we believe that helping children understand and celebrate cultural heritage is an important part of helping them discover who they are and appreciate the world around them.
Through classroom explorations, family participation, and meaningful cultural celebrations, we create opportunities for children to experience the richness of different cultures and recognize the connections we share.
Exploring Hispanic Heritage
During Hispanic Heritage Month, our teachers introduced children to Hispanic cultures through national flags, traditional clothing, food, music, and other cultural traditions. Montessori materials support these cultural studies each day in our classrooms. These experiences encouraged children to look beyond appearances and discover the stories, traditions, and people behind each culture. By exploring the richness of Hispanic heritage, children learned to appreciate cultural differences and recognize the value of the traditions that shape our communities.

Learning Through Our Families: Filipino Heritage
We were delighted to welcome MOLO parents into our school to share their Filipino heritage with our students. These experiences remind us that heritage is something we live and share—not simply something we read about. When families bring their languages, traditions, and personal stories into the classroom, children see that their identities are valued and that every family has something meaningful to contribute.

Celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival Through Performance
This Friday, our community will celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, an important Chinese tradition associated with family reunion, togetherness, and hopes for happiness and well-being. In preparation for the celebration, our children have been learning Chinese songs and traditional poetry and preparing performances to share with the school community. Through language, music, and performance, children experience how cultural traditions connect generations and keep heritage alive.

Building a Community Where Everyone Belongs
At MOLO, diversity and inclusion are more than values we talk about; they are values we put into practice. Children need opportunities to see their own backgrounds respected while learning to approach other cultures with curiosity and respect.
Heritage connects us to our roots. Cultural understanding builds bridges between us.
At MOLO, we are proud to create a community where every culture has a place, every family has a voice, and every child can grow up knowing that who they are—and where they come from—matters.
